Holiday Update

Hello Folks!

This is a long overdue "hello" to all who follow my blog, or who, as may be your case, stumble across it (it that proper English? Anyone...?)

Misc. news to report includes:

--> Many new wonderful clients who I will feature here in the months to come.

--> A new addition to our family will be arriving sometime in April... in case you hadn't caught that one yet. I am currently enjoying the "all-you-can-eat" version of a Merry Christmas.

--> Confessions of an Introvert is slated to be released in February. If you have already read a copy - you can review it on Amazon or on the Source books site. Remember that reviews can only help my overall success--and the time you take on them may very well buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks--not that I am paying for reviews of anything like that... that wouldn't be cool... just that I appreciate your honest feedback, and I really like Starbucks.

--> I will be traveling over the Christmas holiday, so if you are looking for me--try facebook or email. No promises on a fast reply, but I will be checking in every so often.

That is all for my brief update, but I did want to say Happy Holidays. Thank you to all who have supported me in the past year. Thank you to my clients, family, friends, readers, web/blog/facebook visitors. Thank you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 2009 is going to be an amazing year, and I am so glad I get to share it with you!

The Black Hole

There is a black hole in my computer. Or maybe it is a time-warp. Or... a black hole that causes time warps? dunno. All I am sure of is that I sat down with my laptop about three hours ago and have yet to log any hours on my client time sheet.

That isn't to say that I haven't been writing -- even blogging. Done both. Just nothing billable, and frankly, I have spent a crazy amount of time just surfing. The Internet is an evil evil thing.

I did add my profile to the Ballantyne BNI website though -- that is cool...ish (not 3 hours cool, but still good). Check it out.

Blogging, Blog Writing, Business Blogging and BNI

I am the speaker next week at the Ballantyne Business Network BNI meeting and I am starting to put together my materials for the presentation.

My 10 minute talk will be on blogging for business--a topic that I am very familiar with, and one which I will enjoy sharing with the group.

However, this group of people is a new one for me, and I am nervous about it already. So I am making up for my lack of comfort with preparation--thinking about what I want to say and how I want to say it, a whole week early. Luckily, the topic is a passion, and speaking in public is always made easier when I know the subject matter as well.

That said, I have much preparation to do, and a week hardly seems like enough given all of the other responsibilities I have this week.

Pete McGourty, Charlotte-based life coach extraordinaire has asked me to write everyday as an exercise to pull out my thoughts and creativity, and to dump out that which is muddling my mind. I am remiss to say, that I have scrapped the paper method he prescribed and have taken up blogging instead. Call it a modern twist on good old-fashioned life coaching, (is there such a thing as "old fashioned life coaching"??) But alas, if you find my entries start to ramble more than usual--blame it on Pete. I am doing my homework...

All this blogging and soul-searching and web focus has made me want to really dig in and get my own sites and blogs in better shape. I should be making some changes over the next few months before the re-launch of Confessions of an Introvert to the blogs and site.

Well -- I need to go do laundry, clean up the kitchen, run the vacuum, get the mail, pay the bills, and take a pain killer for my back before I head out to my son's soccer practice.

Sunny Spring

It has been quite nice and sunny here in Charlotte today. It was very nice.

I have been quite fortunate to have picked up several clients in the last few weeks and I am scrambling to get all of the work done well and on time, while nursing my bazillionth cold of the last few months.

My 1 year anniversary in Charlotte has come and gone, and I am very happy here. I have been trying to get some of my friends to come and buy homes in the Charlotte area but no takers yet. If they could see the pretty Spring we are having, they would be lining up.

Admittedly that is a lame excuse for an update, but I felt like I should write something for the 1 person who reads this once in a while (like you: James!)

- Hope all is well with you, and come for a visit. I am opening up Chez Wier for visitors!

Meg's Vacation Photo

ok - so here is the promised picture of me from the vacation -- So many great pics were taken thanks to my family's facination w/ technology but not a ton of me. This one sis Erin took and she did a wonderful job. Don't I look relaxed!

oh oh! Better get back to blogging

Ok, so now total strangers are starting to tell me I am not blogging enough! It used to be just my mom, but I logged on today to find comments on several of my blogs. Sorry guys - I will try to be better. As an introvert I think that sometimes we forget that there is a bigger world...

I am fresh off my vacation and If I figure out a way to post a picture or two, I will. Vacation was wonderful. Time with family, sisters, my niece. It was great.

Vacation brain is still clouding my ability to get things done, but I have been doing a bit of research on how to get my book on amazon to rank better. It seems there are a lot of SEO-ish ways to get a better ranking - and the better ranked books come up higher when searches happen and generally sell better. Which -- then in turns brings the ranking up (or in fact "down" as a lower number is better).

One way to get a better ranking is for people to write reviews about your book. And if those people have reviewed before, the ranking increase will be better, especially if their other reviews were voted "helpful". The ins and outs of that is a little nutty and probably a bit more complicated than Google in some ways.

Now, Amazon won't let anyone write a review unless they have bought something on Amazon before - or vote for helpfulness or "tag" an item either. I think this is probably to disuade people from creating reviews falsely. Which, as annoying as it is as the author, is respected.

Anyway the SEO-person in me is enjoying the challenge of learning as much as I can, and the author in me obviously wants my book to be ranked as best it can be.

So I am actively soliciting reviews as a starter, and learning as much as I can about getting those rankings up.

This week I cave company in, so I will try not to avoid my updates here, but, given my track record, I can't promise anything.... :)
